Abstract
A technique for obtaining a continuous dose distribution in a phantom exposed to X-rays has been developed and applied to assess the dose in man resulting from radiographic examinations. Film packets and LiF thermoluminescent microdosemeters are sandwiched between the transverse sections of a phantom and exposed to typical diagnostic X-ray procedures. Information obtained from calibration graphs and from the air dose on the phanom surface at the centre of the useful beam permits the construction of isodose curves directly on film. The isodose curves are superimposed on drawings of the appropriate anatomical cross-sections. When the drawings are arranged in proper sequence a three dimensional distribution is obtained.
