Abstract

A method for using basis functions that do not satisfy the boundary conditions in linear variation functions is presented and applied to the problems of a hydrogen atom at the centre of an infinitely strong sphere, an electron in a Coulomb field outside an impenetrable sphere and a harmonic oscillator in a one-dimensional box.
