Understanding and Treatment of Eating Disorders in Children and Adolescents
2022, Comprehensive Clinical Psychology, Second EditionComorbid obsessive-compulsive disorder in individuals with eating disorders: An epidemiological meta-analysis
2021, Journal of Psychiatric ResearchCitation Excerpt :Samples were predominantly female (95.9%), with a mean age of 25.6 years, average ED onset at 18 years, mean ED duration of 6.1 years, and mean age of OCD onset at 13 years. Five included studies were exclusively adolescent ED samples ranging in age from 12 to 18 (e.g., Agras et al., 2014; Fornasari et al., 2014; Rojo-Moreno et al., 2015; Salbach-Andrae et al., 2008; Striegel-Moore et al., 2001), with 4 additional studies having sample mean ages within the adolescent range (e.g., Blachno et al., 2014; Rastam, 1992; Schmidt et al., 2008; Stein et al., 2012). All remaining ED samples recruited participants with primary ED diagnoses within the age range of 12 and 60 years.
Prolonged constipation and diarrhea in childhood and disordered eating in adolescence
2019, Journal of Psychosomatic ResearchCitation Excerpt :Two previous studies have reported GI problems in childhood to be associated with the development of eating disorders. Råstam et al. reported that childhood GI problems (defined as early feeding problems, severe bellyache, or treatment in hospital for GI problems) were significantly more common in their sample of 51 adolescent females with anorexia nervosa than in healthy controls [28]. In an Israeli cross-sectional study of a population sample of adolescent school girls, constipation was associated with the later development of disordered eating [29].
