Abstract

The Boltzmann equation is solved for independent Bloch electrons elastically scattered in a cubic metal in a magnetic field. Group-theoretical considerations permit a simplification of the problem to a point where some general conclusions may be drawn. Specific numerical computations are made for models having spherical Fermi surfaces and various types of scattering. No prediction of the observed linear magnetoresistance of potassium emerges from this calculation.
