Abstract

Levels in Ca42 excited by the Si28(O16,2p) reaction have been investigated with EO16=3642 MeV. γ-ray angular distributions and γγ angular correlations relative to the beam direction have been determined. Level energies, decay modes, spins, parities, and γ-ray radiative admixtures were extracted. Level energies in keV and preferred Jπ's are: 4099.9 (5), 5491.4 (5+), 5744.1 (5), 6144.5 (6+), 6408.8 (7+), 6553.9 (7), 7368.7 (6 or 8), and 8297.9 (J=J7369±1). These spin-parity assignments differ from those reported recently by Warburton, Kolata, and Olness.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Si28(O16,2p) E=3642 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γ(θ), γγ(θ). Ca42 deduced levels, J, π, δ, γ branching, transition probabilities.
