Abstract

Interference in the KK¯ decay mode of the f0 and A20 mesons is discussed in terms of the mass-matrix formalism. It is shown that the measurement of the f0KK¯ branching ratio can be in error by an order of magnitude if interference is not properly accounted for. Data from π+p and πp reactions at 18.5 GeVc are used to determine the (f0KK¯)(f0ππ) branching ratio Rf0 using the known A2KK¯ branching ratio and assuming a value for the coherence factor. We find 9%Rf018%.
