Abstract

Comparison of A1 coherent production in Freon with production in H2 implies a total A1-nucleon cross section σ(A1N)<~(0.50.2+0.3)σ(πN) with a further theoretical uncertainty of about 10%. The result appears to preclude the possibility, suggested by the Deck model, that the ρ and π in the A1 are produced close together without appreciable interaction between them.
