Optical Frequency Multiplication by an Optical Klystron

Abstract

We report the first observation of the emission of coherent light by an electron beam bunched at 1.06 μm by a Nd-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser focused into an optical klystron. An enhancement of 102 to 103 over its spontaneous emission level at 355 nm has been observed in these experiments performed at the ACO storage ring at Orsay.
