Abstract

The architectural design of 27 new academic libraries has been examined in detail. Conclusions and recommendations are presented, covering: the planning process; exterior design and construction; interior design and fittings. It is concluded that a mutual educational process between architects and librarians has led to many useful lessons being learned and successful academic library buildings being provided.
