Autotuning of PID Controllers: Relay Feedback Approach is aimed at people who are associated with controller tuning and who wish to improve controller performance. The book is suitable as an independent learning tool for researchers and engineers and provides a simple and effective method of tuning proportional integral derivative (PID) controllers automatically.

The text comprises of ten well‐written chapters. Chapter 1 is an introductory chapter and chapter 2, Relay feedback, discusses how and why relay feedback tests can be used as a means of autotuning. Chapter 3 introduces a relay feedback design with improved accuracy.

Chapters 4 and 5 discuss Systems with unstable zeros or poles, and Multivariable systems, respectively.

A procedure to find controller parameters under changes in the load is covered in chapter 6, while the following chapter addresses Process nonlinearity.

Techniques for controller monitoring and autotuning for plantwide control systems are discussed in chapters 8 and 9. The final chapter of the book, Guidelines for autotune procedure, describes which type of relay feedback tests should be implemented and when to do so.

Autotuning of PID Controllers contains plenty of experimental results and an appendix containing simulations written in MATLAB for ideal, saturation, output‐biased and input‐biased relays.

Overall this book is written in a way which not only makes it easy to understand but is also useful to those interested in, or working with PID controllers.
