Abstract

When using photodiode arrays for optical recognition, the information of a picture is represented in a fixed orthogonal grid. This grid corresponds to the matrix arrangement of the individual photodiodes. In a square matrix of n × n points, the information in the picture can be presented as a sequence of light intensity values according to equation 1:
