A class of minimum duration-bandwidth product, discretetime, orthonormal wavelets is formulated using the discrete-time wavelet transform (DTWT) via the (L+1)-channel, perfect-reconstruction, discrete-time filter bank structure and a duration-bandwidth product measure averaged over the filterbank channels. We show a significant improvement in duration-bandwidth product over the discrete-time (filterbank) versions of Daubechies’s minimum-phase and least-asymmetric wavelets in our examples for filter lengths 8?N?22. These wavelets are expected to perform better than other classes of wavelets in applications where small duration-bandwidth product is important.
