Abstract
Liquid crystals as nonlinear optical materials are reviewed. Potential applications of these materials in wave mixing, phase conjugation, and optical bistability are discussed. The extremely large optical nonlinearity and the slow response time of these materials make them unique for studies of some highly nonlinear optical processes and their dynamic characteristics.
