Abstract

The species composition of sculpins of the genus Malacocottus in the Sea of Japan is discussed. It is shown that only Malacocottus gibber Sakamoto, 1930 inhabits this sea. The name M. microphthalmus Popov, 1933 is a junior synonym of M. gibber. A new Russian name for M. gibber is proposed: yaponomorskii myagkii bychok.
