Abstract

The extraction properties of 1-(2-neononylamidoethyl)-2-neononyl-2-imidazoline hydrochloride (with chloroform as diluent) in Ga(III) recovery from hydrochloric acid solutions were studied. The acid concentration range (5–10 M HCl) for the efficient extraction and selective separation of Ga(III) from In(III), Al(III), and Fe(II) was determined. The concentration constants and thermodynamic parameters of the anion-exchange extraction of Ga(III) from 5 M HCl solutions were calculated. The optimum stripping agents for Ga(III) and Zn(II) are the solutions of 0.5 and 0.1 M HCl, respectively. It is proposed to use the extractant in a hydrometallurgical scheme of processing a spent semiconductor material containing Ga(III), In(III) and Zn(II) oxides, for the selective separation of Ga(III) and Zn(II) from In(III) at the acidity of the leaching solution 5 M HCl.
