The purpose of this article is to provide a summary of modifications to the electronic properties of nanometer scale semiconducting TiO2 using main group dopants including nitrogen and metal ions for use in photoelectrochemical catalyzed reactions to generate hydrogen. The difference between this and other recently published reviews is a focus on the generation of hydrogen versus the more common foci on environmental pollution degradation, or hydrophilicity.
