ABSTRACT

The evolution of telemedicine started with the advancement of the Internet and Wi-Fi gadgets like mobile. With the help of telemedicine and its other relevant technologies, now healthcare services may reach the furthest corner of the country, even crossing national boundaries. In this chapter, we try to shed light on its history, architecture and multiplicative growth during COVID-19.

Telemedicine could be used to offer help through the Internet. In the world of telemedicine two types of help can be procured. First, one uses the help of tele-conferencing which creates a real-world simulation between the doctor and the patient. The second procedure uses the store and forward method of clinical data about the patient. It could be termed asynchronous method, which is responsible for forwarding the different health data like blood pressure (BP), heartbeat, and body weight. Later these data could be analyzed and the proper medication could be administered to the patient. This method revolutionizes continuous monitoring of older persons with respect to the clinical point of view.

Telemedicine, e-health, and m-health are doing a tremendous job during COVID-19 pandemic situation to bring the healthcare to the remote corners of the country. In lockdown and social distancing mode, the patients with high blood pressure, diabetes and heart conditions can be monitored by their doctors. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought forth a paradigm shift in the healthcare industry. With the gradual advancement of the technology, continuous data from the implanted gadgets of the patients will grow into a specialized monitoring and treatment platform. Remote monitoring systems are likely to become more prevalent in the worldwide healthcare industry, and it may be presumed that it will touch other new horizons in the forthcoming decades.
