ABSTRACT

This paper presents the tensile behaviour of Double Headed Anchored Blind Bolts (DHABBs) which are anchored within Concrete Filled Square Hollow Section (CFSHS) tubes. The DHABB consists of a conventional Headed Anchored Blind Bolt (HABB) with one additional middle head, between the existing end head in the embedded region and head next to the tube wall. A series of experiments were conducted on the pull-out of single DHABBs under monotonic and cyclic loading. A detailed three dimensional finite element model was developed and the results were compared with full scale pull-out test results. A good agreement was obtained between the FE and experimental results. The results showed that the addition of the middle head provides higher stiffness than conventional HABBs.
