Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate that, for standard silicon-photonic resonators, a Fano lineshape can be created in the response function by placing an inverse-designed reflecting element into the side-coupled waveguide. Inverse design allows for robust control of the Fano spectrum and small device footprint, with wide applications in optical sensing, switching, and passive isolation.
