The aim of the study is to assess the clinical and immunological efficacy of ultrasound application on the spleen region in combination with autoserotherapy in children with atopic bronchial asthma.
Materials and methods. We have examined 64 children with atopic bronchial asthma aged 6 to 18 years. Group A (32 children) received ultra-sound on the spleen region in combination with autoserotherapy simultaneously with basic treatment. Group B (32 children) received only basic therapy. The frequency of bronchial obstruction, the frequency of use of short-acting β2-agonists, the level of CD3+, CD4+, CD4+CD25+, CD19+, CD19+CD23++ lymphocytes, FcεRI+, CD23+IgE+-eosinophils were studied.
Results. In the group of children who received ultrasound with autoserotherapy at the same time as basic treatment, the frequency of bronchial obstruction, as well as the number of doses of short-acting β2-agonists at 1 and 3 months statistically significantly lower than in the group of children receiving only basic therapy (p<0,05). In group A, a significant decrease in the relative and absolute levels of CD4+CD25+ T-lymphocytes (ð<0,05) was noted. After 12–15 days, an increase in the relative and absolute levels of CD19+CD23++ - B-lymphocytes (p<0,05) was revealed. After 82–90 days, the absolute level of CD19+CD23++ B-lymphocytes is lower in group A than in group B (p<0,05). The relative and absolute level of eosinophils in group A is statistically significantly lower after 12–15 days, compared with group B (p<0,05). The level of FcεRI+ eosinophils in group A decreased after treatment to day 82–90 (p<0,05). Differences in the dynamics of the absolute level of CD23+IgE+ eosinophils in group A were established 12–15 and 82–90 days after the start of therapy (p<0,05).
Significant differences between the groups were revealed when determining the absolute level of this indicator in 12–15 days from the start of the study (p<0,05). In group A, a decrease in IgE antibodies to D. pteronyssinus, cat and dog wool (p<0,05)
was established.
Conclusions. The use of ultrasound in combination with autoserotherapy in children with atopic bronchial asthma reduces the number of episodes of bronchial obstruction, reduces the use of short-acting β2-agonists, and reduces proallergic parameters.
