Immunopathology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a priority disease of public health importance. It is known that the main risk factor at present is inhalation of toxicants, first of all, cigarette smoke. Evidence is presented that the immune system plays a key role in the pathogenesis of COPD. The autoimmune factors for the progression of COPD is identified. The airway hyperreactivity is revealed to the smoke of cigarettes in persons without COPD.
