식민지-제국전쟁은 근대 국제관계 형성에 어떻게 작용하였는가? 기존의 근대 국제관계 형성이론은 전쟁을 서구 중심적인 시각에서 개념화하고 이론화하였다. 근대 국제관계 형성의 주요 동인으로서의 전쟁을 근대 주권국가 간의 전쟁이자 주요 강대국 간의 대전쟁으로 상정한 것이다. 이 글은 전쟁에 대한 탈식민주의적 시각에서 식민지-제국전쟁이 근대 국제관계 형성의 주요 요소로 작용하였음을 주장한다. 이중 혁명과 19세기 지구적 변환의 대격변과 함께 일어난 아이티혁명･독립전쟁을 불균등 결합발전이론에 기반하여 살펴봄으로써, 이 글은 식민지-제국전쟁과 근대 국제관계 형성 동학 간의 상관관계를 다음과 같이 밝힌다. 단위적 차원에서, 식민지-제국전쟁은 사회, 경제, 정치제도와 같은 근대국가 건설에 주요한 구성적 요소로 작용하였다. 체제적 차원에서, 식민지-제국전쟁은 강대국 간의 권력관계와 대전쟁뿐만아니라 근대 국제체제의 특성에도 영향을 미쳤다.

How did the colonial-imperial war affect the formation of modern international relations? The traditional theory of modern international relations has assumed war as a significant driving force in the formation of modern international relations as a war between modern territorial sovereign states and a war between major powers from a Western-centered perspective. However, this article argues that the colonial-imperial war played a major factor in forming modern international relations from a postcolonial perspective on war. By examining the Haitian Revolution-War of Independence, which occurred at the time of the dual revolution and the 19th-century transformation as the colonial-imperial war, this study reveals the correlation between colonial-imperial war and the formation dynamics of modern international relations based on the uneven and combined development theory. At the unit level, the colonial-imperial war was a principal factor in modern state-building, such as social, economic, and political institutions. At the systemic level, the colonial-imperial war affected the relations and the major war between great powers and the characteristics of the modern international system.
