Abstract
The crystal structure of the title compound (2) has been determined [P21/c, a = 8.986(2), b = 15.993(2), c = 9.000(2) Å, β = 94.42(2)°, Z = 4, R = 0.054]. (2) adopts the unexpected equatorial conformation. The exocyclic acetal bond is significantly shorter than the endocyclic [1.392(4), cf. 1.419(4) Å]. This is consistent with a system in which the transmission of electronic effects is unidirectional.
