스리 오로빈도는 “인류의 영원한 진리로의 진화”라는 진화사상에 기초하여 통합사상을 창시했다. 프로이드가 무의식의 발견으로 업적을 남겼다면 오로빈도는 영성적 마음의 발견자로서 업적을 남겼다 할 것이다. 오로빈도가 주장하는 신성한 삶은 곧 마음의 완성을 지향하는 것인데 그는 마음을 5개 영역의 9개 수준으로 체계화했다. 5개 영역은 신체, 생명, 정신적 마음, 심령적 마음, 슈퍼마인드로 나눌 수 있다. 여기서 특히 심령적 마음은 “높은 마음(Higher Mind)-조명하는 마음(Illumined Mind)-직관의 마음(Intuitive Mind)-상위마음(Over Mind)”의 4 수준으로 나뉜다. 그리고 초월심은 진리의식이자 본래적 지식으로서 궁극적 영적 실재를 향해 인간을 상승시키는 힘이다. 그는 인간이 신성한 삶을 목적삼고 이를 향해 실천할 것을 요구하는데 그 방법은 신체적(physical), 생명적(vital), 정신적(mental), 심령적(psychic) 그리고 영성적(spiritual) 차원의 다섯 영역의 마음교육으로 구체화되었다. 이는 오직 인간 자신의 내면으로 들어가 내면으로 물러서서 집중과 평온, 초연함을 습관화하고, 심령적 존재에 대한 확고한 신념이 마음교육의 기초가 됨을 말했다. 진리와 힘을 향한 자신의 전일적 존재에 대한 의식적 순응, 그리고 진정한 자기를 둘러싼 전일적 존재로의 통일과 우주 의식으로의 개방이 중요한 마음교육의 토대가 된다.
The history of mankind has been evolved to understand human being. Sri Aurobindo(1872~1950) is referred to as the modern philosopher and founder of integral thought. He contributed to the formation of the Integral thought schools. Also he was systematically investigated in human understanding, particularly the human mind. He said that “Mind is human. He used mind in dual meaning; one as the narrow meaning “mental”, the other was a broad sense of “consciousness”. Aurobindo totally understanded the mind as unconscious, matter, life, consciousness, superconsciousness, with varying levels of human being as a whole and he discovered the Supermind that Western psychology has been overlooked. He insisted the evolution of the human mind. He indicated that his greatest discovery was the existence of a Psychic Being. Aurobindo said that human being is not the end of evolution, but future state of the presence of mental spiritual evolution which can be realized. Evolution is a process of appearance from unconscious existence. It gradually appears in stages of matter, life, mind, and psychic mind. The process of conscious existence emerging out of the unconscious is referred as evolution. This higher evolution is described as a dual movement; inward, away from the surface consciousness and into the depths, culminating in the realization of the Psychic Being; and then upward to higher levels of spiritual mind(higher mind, illumined mind, intuitive mind, and overmind), culminating in the final stage of supramentalisation.
