GAS EXTRACTION FROM AIR INTAKE IN THE TRANSIENT REGIME OF RAREFIED GAS FLOW
ABSTRACT
We use direct statistical simulation to perform a numerical study of gas flow in an air intake with a free-molecular and transient flow regime for a finite Knudsen number (Kn) with gas extraction from the collector. We obtain values for air intake in a cylindrical tube, dependences of collector gas density and gas extraction from Kn, and relative tube length. We find that in the transient regime, dependence of relative gas density in the collector and amount of gas extraction from Kn have a nonmonotonic character. For all flow regimes, we construct throttle characteristics that establish the relationship between gas density in the collector and amount of gas extraction.
