The purpose of this study was to suggest integrated teaching-learning methods that could be applied in music education at schools based on the musical characteristics of the Jeju Chilmeoridang Yeongdeung-gut, one of the most valuable cultural art recognized by the world. The Jeju Chilmeoridang Yeongdeung-gut is our cultural heritage registered as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in September 2009. As one of the Yeongdeungguts practiced from time out of mind, Jeju Chilmeoridang Yeongdeung-gut is significant in its artistic and cultural values as a shamanistic ritual, in which sacrificial rites are held for Yeongdeung-shin (god) and Daewang (sea god). As people have recently tended to properly understand traditional and regional cultures in the educational circle, they have been greatly interested in the importance of aesthetic value recognition for our cultural heritage and its subsequent cultural art education. In this regard, this study suggested hands-on teaching-learning methods of music classes at schools using Jeju Chilmeoridang Yeongdeung-gut. As for its teaching methods, the study suggested the integrated approach in accordance with the domains of singing, instrumental music, creation and appreciation of music as integrated music activities, the integrated approach among artistic domains such as fine arts, dancing and drama and the same approach with other subjects. It is hoped that the application of this study will let students recognize the values of traditional art, the cultural identity and an interest in their regional music culture based on the proper understanding of Jeju dance and music. Besides, it is expected that students will broaden their understanding of the relationship with music and their daily lives through class and improve their musical potential and creativity.
