본 연구의 목적은 Dewey의 반성적 사고가 오늘날 우리의 교육현장에 주는 시사점을 찾는데 있다. Dewey에 의하면 교육은 경험의 재구성이며, 경험을 재구성함으로써 학습자는 성장한다. 학습자의 성장을 결정짓는 중요한 요소는 인간의 사고능력이다. Dewey는 사고 중에서 가장 우수한 사고를 반성적 사고라 하였다. 그는 사고가 어떻게 문제를 해결해 주는지를 반성적 사고의 전개과정을 통해 보여주었다.
반성적 사고는 이해력과 응용력 그리고 창의력과 함께 분석력, 판단력 등의 사고력 함양을 지향하는 현재의 우리 교육에 다음과 같은 시사를 주고 있다. 첫째, 교사는 교수 행위 속에서 반드시 반성적 사고를 통해 가르쳐야 한다. 둘째, 수업활동에서 학습자들이 직면하게 되는 문제를 스스로 해결할 수 있도록 반성적 사고를 촉진할 수 있는 수업이 진행되어야 한다. 셋째, 수업방법은 학습자들이 상호작용할 수 있는 소집단 토의형식의 문제해결학습 방법으로 구성되어야 한다. 넷째, 교육자는 학습자에게 반성적 사고를 과정별로 실험할 수 있는 교육적 환경을 제공할 수 있도록 노력해야 한다. 다섯째, 반성적 사고과정은 철학상담의 기법에 적극 활용될 수 있는 방안이 연구되어야 할 것이다.
The purpose of this paper is to find some suggestions of the Dewey’s reflective thinking to a current education field. According to Dewey, the education is a reconstruction of experience and a learner grows by the reconstructing of experiences. The important element of learner’s growth is the thinking ability. Dewey said that the reflective thinking is the excellent one among the thinking. Dewey shows the way how the thinking solve a problem by a process of reflective thinking. To the education field, Dewey’s reflective thinking suggests the followings. First, a teacher must teach with the reflective thinking. Second, a class should be carried out to gear up a learner the reflective thinking to solve the problem by oneself. Third, the instructional method must be composed of a discussion of small group. Fourth, teachers must provide the learners the educational environment to experience a reflective thinking step by step.
