Roughly since the start of this century, scholarly interest in the social history of moviegoing has coalesced into what is known as New Cinema History. What is the current state of affairs in this field in the Low Countries and beyond? The contributions in this special issue of TMG – Journal for Media History offer a range of theoretical and methodological angles grounded in concrete case studies, focused on but not limited to research in Belgium and the Netherlands. The issue was edited by Clara Pafort-Overduin and Thunnis van Oort.
