The purpose of this study is to find effective ways of teaching the passive constructions by examining how they are presented and practiced in high school English textbooks and their activity books. When teaching grammar, we need to deal with the relevant grammar separately from the four language-skills to draw the learner's attention to the concerned grammar rules. However, the teaching methods should also be integrated with those skills in order to improve the learners' practical application. To help them understand the various usage of the passive, other passive auxiliaries besides the verb be need to be dealt with. The way of introducing passive constructions by transforming actives into passives and vice versa need to be treated very carefully since the meanings of passive and their corresponding actives are not always the same, and their functions are different in context. In particular, the passive construction can be effectively taught with consideration of the context or situation in which it occurs. Such an approach will help learners understand when and why a certain passive form should be used and help them apply the rules appropriately in a real situation.
