초록

이 글에서는 “지속가능발전”의 원리와 가치가 환경․사회․경제․정치․교육을 포함한 모든 학문영역으로 그 영향력을 확대해 가야 한다는 당위성을 주장하고자 한다. 이 글에서는 총체성 교육의 맥락에서 지속가능한 미래의 형성에 필요한 역량을 육성해야 하는 책무를 요청받고 있는 예술교육이 이러한 사회적 요청과 조응하여 보다 실천적으로 이에 기여할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 것이 그 교육의 정당성을 지속적으로 강화해 나가는 하나의 방안임을 파악하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 총체적이고 포괄적 학습으로서 개인과 사회의 성장과 발달을 추구해 온 예술교육이 내재적 원리 전환과 외재적 가치 확대를 통해 지속가능한 미래를 창조하는 데 기여할 수 있는지 살펴보았다. 그리고 실제 제2차 유네스코 예술교육세계대회에서 채택된 “서울 어젠다: 예술교육 발전목표”가 지속가능발전의 가치를 내재화 하고 있음을 확인하였으며 이를 근거로 지속가능성 사고의 확장에 기여할 수 있는 예술 교육과정의 개선방향을 탐색해 보았다.
