This paper investigates the degree of concentration of media suppliers in the individual media markets and in the entire market in Korea. To look at the status of the diversity in the media market, we measure the degree of concentration within and among Korean broadcasting, newspaper, and internet markets from 2003 to 2006 using CR. Results show that top media companies that dominate the individual media market have the highest market share in the overall market as well. In fact, operators that can decrease diversity in the process of integration between different media markets were the three terrestrial broadcasters, top three newspapers, and NHN, an internet portal. The internet portal market is still small but considering the upcoming proactive entry of telecommunication operators into the broadcasting sector, its size is likely to grow. Diversity is a major principle that affects the achievement of the mass media and even in the digital convergence era, media diversity policies will carry significant value.
