Binary alloys of Zn with iron-group metals were electrodeposited from sulfate solutions under galvanostatic conditions. In a wide range of plating conditions, anomalous codepositions, and hence a preferential deposition of electrochemically less noble Zn occurred. Evaluation of the pH in the vicinity of cathode and of the surface film resistance revealed the mechanism of anomalous codeposition including the formation of Zn hydroxide resulting from the rise in the pH in the vicinity of cathode.
