Abstract

Recently, high quality Electric Resistance Welded Tubes (ERW Tubes) have been requested by the customers. To meet this demand, the Sumitomo Metals has successfully developed an Automatic Welding Control System, using Pattern Thermometer, Upset Gauge, etc., which were newly developed for this system. The results obtained by applying this system to a small size ERW tube mill are as follows:
(1) Welding temperature was stabilized by computer according to the conditions of the tube size, material and welding speed.
(2) This system has been found to be useful for welding low alloy steel and high carbon steel which have more severe welding conditions.
