We are pleased to respond to the comments on our article that Ian Lundberg and Brandon Stewart (LS) have offered (this volume). Although their commentary is clearly written and provocative, we show that their criticisms of our approach are misguided. These criticisms, which take up the bulk of their contribution, are awkwardly packaged with a concluding pitch on behalf of visual representations of quantile intergenerational curves. Because LS’s methods ask different questions and serve different ends than our methods, the two approaches can and should peacefully coexist. We would thus do well to resist any effort to create artificial competition between them.
