CORRELATION BETWEEN NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND QUALITY OF LIFE AMONG ELDERLY IN WARGA TAMA INDRALAYA SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS

Abstract


Background: Based on the report of the Health Department in 2007, along with this, the number of elderly population has also increased significantly. The increase in the elderly population is certainly a big challenge in the health and nutrition problems. This study aims to determine the relationship of nutritional status on quality of life of the elderly in Warga Tama Indralaya Social Institutions.

Method: This research uses cross sectional approach. The sampling technique was used purposive sampling, total sample of 62 respondents elderly in Warga Tama Indralaya Social Institutions. Collecting data was in September 2016. Data analysis performed was univariate, bivariate and multivariate using chi-square statistic test and multiple logistic regression

Result: Based on the results of the research on the elderly at the Tresna Werdha Social Institution Tama Indralaya is known statistically the most dominant nutritional status is related to the quality of life (p-value=0.004; OR=20.927). Other related variables were age (p-value=0,005; OR=5,182), gender (p-value=0,003; OR=5,938), marital status (p-value=0.001; OR=6,861) and rheumatic disease (p-value=0.001; OR=6,750)

Conclusion: It can be concluded that nutritional status is a factor that can affect the quality of life of elderly in Panti Trerda Werdha Tama Indralaya. Recommendation for health health officer who served in Trerda Werdha Tama Institution Indralaya citizens to be able to conduct counseling and socialization to improve knowledge of elderly about nutrition.
