Abstract

In this study, an increase in the expression level of the proinflammatory Nos2 and Nfkb1 genes in blood and the esophageal mucus under the conditions of alkaline burns of the esophagus, degree 2 (AEB 2), has been shown. It has been found that the activity of endothelial nitric-oxide synthase (eNOS) and inducible nitric-oxide synthase (iNOS) increased, due to AEB 2, both in blood and the esophageal mucus. The introduction of melanin showed a decrease in the expression level of the Nos2 and Nfkb1 genes in blood and esophageal tissue compared with the AEB 2 variation indicators. A decrease, compared with the AEB 2 variation indicators, was also noted in the activity of eNOS and iNOS, indicating the presence of anti-inflammatory properties in this compound as well as a possibility to apply melanin as a substance promoting faster healing of esophageal chemical burns and preventing postburn complications.
