초록

Due to transportation and installation challenges, the average size of wind turbines is limited to within 2~3 MW class in the worldwide onshore market. These challenges can be overcome with the modularization of large components such as rotor blades, nacelles and towers. The purpose of this paper is the modular design of an onshore 4 MW class wind turbine nacelle, which includes a power converter system and main transformer. Same logistics conditions for the onshore 2 MW class wind turbine nacelle were taken into account in the design stage. During the concept study, a conventional and reliable drivetrain with a long shaft and CRB + DTRB bearing arrangement was chosen among three different drivetrain concepts, and the main nacelle components were grouped into three modules, DT (drive-train), NA (nacelle) and TR (transformer). Each module and component was designed and optimized in detail to meet the required weights and dimensions. A full-scale prototype of the 4.2 MW nacelle was installed in a modular manner and tested successfully at Yeonggwang, a site in South Korea.
