The effect of interfacial adhesion to soapy water used as an intermediate medium was studied for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of wind blade composite materials. As a result of surface energy analysis using a static contact angle method, the polar component of the surface energy decreased after the water cleaning or acetone cleaning process. The interfacial adhesion of carbon fiber reinforced composite (CFRC) and adhesive using a lap shear test was relatively increased after the water cleaning or acetone cleaning process. In the case of acetone cleaning, not only were the polar elements of the surfactant partially removed, but also the polar elements existing on the surface of the CFRC, and thus the shear strength tended to decrease compared to the case of the water cleaning process. The water cleaning process is the most efficient method to apply to the actual production process to eliminate the surfactant residues on a wind blade composite surface.
