초록

When the blade of a wind turbine is in stall at a high angle of attack, the flow field is characterized by flow separation over the suction surface of the blade. The flow under high angle of attack causes dynamic instability of the blade and the drop of the lift. A modified NACA 0021 airfoil was used as a passive control method for flow separation in this study. The modified airfoil has a leading edge with a wavy shape. Current unsteady numerical analysis using Spalart-Allmaras Detached Eddy Simulation (SA DES) was conducted to predict the aerodynamic characteristics of the modified NACA 0021 airfoil. This investigation provides a comparison of the aerodynamic characteristics between the baseline model and the undulated model of the NACA 0021 airfoil. The undulated blade used in this study produced higher lift as compared with the baseline model at high angles of attack.
