본 연구에서는 한국과 중국의 기자 소재 영화와 드라마를 각각 7부씩 선택하여 기자 이미지를 유형별로 나누어 분석하고 그 이미지들이 재현하고 있는 상징적 의미를 탐색해 보았다. 한중 양국의 영화와 드라마에서 나타난 기자 이미지는 대체적으로 다섯 가지 즉 개인이익 추구형, 침묵의 생계형, 개과천선형, ‘윤리적 갈등과 고민’형 캐릭터, 정의롭고 용감한 캐릭터 등 유형들로 나눌 수 있었다. 이런 기자 이미지를 통해서 ‘나쁜 기자’로부터 ‘좋은 기자’로의 반전(反轉)의 이미지를 구축하고, ‘개과천선’하고, ‘정의롭고’, ‘영웅적인’ 기자 이미지 신화를 불러내고 있는데 이는 한국과 중국 대중들이 언론계와 기자의 직업에 대한 사회적 기대라고 볼 수 있다. 하지만 이런 반전신화는 정치적 논리에 대해 ‘자연화’하고 ‘탈정치화’하는 위험이 있으며 윤리충돌과 권력쟁탈 등 진실한 사회의 충돌과 모순을 덮어버리는 문제점도 안고 있다. 양국 영화와 드라마를 비교해보면 등장인물의 다양성 양상, 언론인들의 고민과 갈등의 내용 및 언론인에 대한 사회적 기대의 내용 등에서 일부 다른 점을 보이고 있었다. 양국 모두 기자 소재의 영화와 드라마가 증가되고 다양화되는 추세에서 앞으로 기자라는 직업의 특수성으로 대중과 가장 가까이에서 어떻게 이들을 대변하고 중계하는 역할을 수행하는지, 어떻게 영화 내에서 재현되고 있는지에 대한 분석은 대중들의 인식과 문화, 언론계와 사회의 역동적 관계 등을 파악하는 주요한 지표로도 사용할 수 있을 것이다.
In this research, images of journalists, in 7 Chinese and Korean movies or TV dramas each, were classified and analyzed, and then their symbolic meanings were explored. The images of journalists could be classified into five types: journalists who seek personal interest; journalists who remain silent to survive; journalists who try to redeem themselves; journalists who are plagued by the sense of guilt in morality; journalists who are heroically dedicated to justice. Both Chinese and Korean movies or TV dramas have tried to construct a reversal of the images of journalists from “bad” to “good”, to cater to the public’s idealistic identification of the press and journalists. The expectation of the society is so high that the journalists in the movies would all become “heroic and dedicated to justice” in the end. On the other hand, there’s a chance that this kind of reversal naturalizes and depoliticalizes the actual social conflicts like ethical problems, and power struggle. The comparison of the journalists in Chinese and Korean movies and TV dramas reveals that they are different in the variety of personalities, and they have dissimilar anxiety, and the two societies hold distinct expectations of media workers. Both countries are producing an increasing number of movies and TV dramas related with journalists. Movies and TV dramas could be a good indicator of how well the journalists are speaking for people as a media, what the social expectation is, and what the relation between the society and the press is like.
