The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of perceived achievement stress on dropout intention by adopting the conditional process modeling technique, and whether mediating effect of athlete engagement is controlled by the level of parental social support. The subjects of this study were 280 college athletes who participated in the 2016 Autumn Kumdo Tournament for University in Korea and collected data through standardized questionnaires about perceived achievement stress, athlete engagement, dropout intention, and parental social support. The main results were obtained. First, in elite kendo sports situation, achievement stress predicted dropout intention positively, and the relationship between achievement stress and dropout intention was mediated by athlete engagement. Second, the effect of athlete engagement on dropout intention was moderated by the level of parental social support. Third, the conditional indirect effect of athlete engagement on mediating the relationship between achievement stress and dropout intention varied according to the level of parental social support.
