초록

이 논문은 마잉주 정권 2기에 확산된 대만 젊은 세대의 정치적 참여를 만하임(Manheim)이 제시한 자아형성기의 정치적 태도로 규명하고자 하였다. 대만에서 젊은 세대의 적극적인 정치적 의사표출은 비교적 새로운 현상이다. 이에 대하여 젊은 세대의 경제적인 박탈감과 중국에 대한 몰이해가 그 이유로 제기되곤 하였다. 그러나 TEDS2014 여론조사의 분석결과에 의하면 젊은 세대의 강한 정치적 의사표출이 단순히 경제적인 원인에 기인한 것이 아님이 입증되었다. 대만의 젊은 세대는 자아형성기에 대만 민족주의 확산과 경제적 불황, 그리고 중국에 대한 경제의존의 확대를 경험한 바 있다. 이러한 경험이 경제적 불평등이 확산되어가는 가운데 젊은 세대에게 미래에 대한 불안감을 초래하고, 자주적인 대만의식을 더욱 강화하였다. 대만의 젊은 세대는 중국과의 교류과정 발생하는 문제에 대해 기성세대와는 다른 방식으로 대응하였으며, 이는 2014년 지방선거에서 민진당의 승리로 이어졌다.
