Abstract

The most important factor in improving the survival statistics for breast cancer is early detection and early diagnosis. Of 268 patients with primary breast cancer in our hospital from August 1978 to November 1989, 24 with noninvasive carcinoma and 16 with nonpalpable (TO) breast cancer were studied. Important factors of the diagnosis for noninvasive carcinomas and TO breast cancer were 1) micodochectomy for bloody nipple discharge; 2) excision of the place of calcification on mammogram; 3) diagnosis and extirpation of intracystic papillary lesions; 4) diagnosis of Paget's carcinoma; and 5) excisional biopsy of the tumor smaller than 1cm in diameter. In this study the importance of microdochectomy which could diagnose 38% of noninvasive and 69% of TO breast cancers was emphasized in early diagnosis of breast cancer.
