ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the application of positive psychology and coaching psychology in schools. It provides an overview of these fields and research conducted to date. The chapter outlines the potential of the combined use of these complementary approaches in the development of larger scale positive education programmes in schools. It relevants to those working in education, although the descriptions of positive psychology and coaching psychology have a broader relevance. The chapter shows that coaching psychology and positive psychology have important roles to play in the school setting as mechanisms to facilitate student, staff, and whole school optimal functioning and wellbeing. It discusses school leadership and administration to think strategically to create positive education programmes that support and sustain a positive school culture for enhanced optimal functioning of students, staff, and school. Positive psychology and coaching psychology are complementary fields and share common aims and objectives, being the enhancement of optimal functioning and wellbeing.
