ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of previous studies on teaching culture, especially in relation to teaching Korean as a second/foreign language (KSL). It first overviews how prior studies define culture in the context of language teaching and how such definitions are applicable to Korean language teaching. This chapter then surveys particular aspects of the Korean language related to teaching and learning culture which were investigated in previous research. It also examines challenges faced by Korean teachers in teaching culture. Lastly, it discusses pedagogical implications for future developments.
