ABSTRACT

This chapter provides tips for ethical conduct on the first job. This begins with choosing the right company, and we refer the reader to Chapter 14 for the questions to ask in the interview. Some additional questions to consider include the following: What is the turnover rate? Do any behavior analysts have outstanding complaints against them? Do the top administrators support behavior analysis? If this is your first job straight out of graduate school, you will probably be working under a clinical supervisor. You should make sure that they are BCBAs, because to be supervised by a non-behavior analyst would be a very uncomfortable situation. You will also want to learn as much as possible about your job expectations and see if you can obtain copies of model assessments, reports, case workups, and behavior programs. It is good to be enthusiastic on your first job, but not so much that you get in over your head. Finding a trusted colleague who you can go to with questions is essential.
