ABSTRACT
The ‘cultural planning’ approach originated in the US in the late 1970s–early 1980s. It became better known after it was adopted by Robert McNulty in his work for the Washington-based NGO Partners for Livable Places (later Partners for Livable Communities) in the course of the 1980s, and later spread to the UK and Australia. Versions of cultural planning are used in public policy-making also in Canada, Sweden, Italy and several other countries.
