ABSTRACT

Recovery from addiction requires a focus on the present moment. It is the ultimate distraction and cannot be quenched by living in the past or worrying about the future. When you can bring your past baggage, trauma, abuse or family roles into the present moment and deal with them, you can begin to heal and recover from addiction. By avoiding distractions and concentrating on the present, you can get a lot more work done, whether in your job or in enhancing your mental health. Experiential therapy does exactly this. It brings past incidents into the here and now and clients deal with the left-over emotions that continue to rob them of their sobriety.
