Las excavaciones en la zona arqueológica de la Peña Oviedo. Las campañas de 2000 a 2003

  • 1. Universitat de València

Description

As it was demonstrated in previous campaigns, the first sure evidence of a Use Resource Mode that implies the production of food, linked in our view, in the case of Liébana valley, to itinerant sepherds, are the settlements of the people responsible for the construction of megalithic structures. Several open-air sites associated with megalithic structures have been excavated in Liébana and Polaciones (Cantabria, Spain). The excavation of Peña Oviedo (Camaleño) was a novelty, in 1991, when surveys in the vicinity of these megalithic structures, with the aim of locating evidence of domestic activities were conducted for the first time. The effective location of domestic structures in the core of Peña Oviedo allowed us to argue that the relationship between burial structures and habitat one was common. To date, a sequence of construction of the megalithic structures could be defended that in its first stages was reflected in the oldest monuments of Peña Oviedo, PO-7, PO-1, that would have relations with the oldest recognized monuments in Eastern Cantabria, like Hayas 1, dolmen de Lodos and Pozabal all of them excavated by the professor of the University of Santiago de Compostela María R. Serna González. That first horizon would have its chronological continuity in the chromlech of PO-2 and in La Raíz II, and a final horizon that would include flat retouched arrowheads and that would be reflected in Root III and perhaps in the anthropomorphic representations of Collado de Sejos and San Sebastián de Garabandal.
