For those of you who have been wondering what's happening with the
authentication and access management white paper, i'm now actively working
on the final version. two things happened: a lot of other work has also
been competing for time, and i also had a number of opportunities to
present and review the results of the draft with various groups over the
summer, which seemed to be too good of an opportunity to miss.
So, look for an announcement of the final, and also a call for
organizations who want to pursue public key implementation issues, in the
next two to three weeks. Both of these announcements will go out to this
list and also to CNI-Announce. After I post out those two messages, I'm
going to close down this list, since it's served its purpose -- unless
someone sees a strong rationale to retain it.
If you have any last minute points you want to raise on the draft that you
haven't already passed along, this would be a great time to do it. Please
send them to me directly.
And finally, a question. I'm going to be adding an appendix on best
practices in connections between proxy servers and external resource
providers, and I would be grateful for any experiences or thoughts that
people may have on this topic (ie use SSL, etc).
Thanks again to everyone who helped with this effort. The comments,
insight, experience and discussion that you shared have been invaluable,
and the draft white paper seems to have been of considerable help to the
community already in clarifying architectural commonalities, highlighting
policy questions, and delineating alternatives.
Clifford Lynch
